Richard Safeer, MD, is medical director of employee health, wellness & innovation at Johns Hopkins HealthCare, where he leads the employee health strategy, Healthy at Hopkins. He also advises the institution on translating research to commercial products which can help employers manage the health of their employee population. Prior to arriving at Hopkins, Richard practiced family medicine in northern Virginia and served on the faculty at the George Washington University. He was the medical director of an occupational health center in Baltimore and wellness director for the mid-Atlantic parent company, just before starting at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield as the medical director of preventive medicine. Richard currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He completed his bachelor of science in nutrition at Cornell University before graduating from medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his residency in family medicine at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore, after which he completed a faculty development fellowship at the Virginia Commonwealth University.
